Feeling Gorgeous at Gorges Lodge
Its not hard to feel fantastic at this hidden gem of a lodge, planted right on the edge of Batoka Gorge overlooking the Zambezi River is the amazing Gorges Lodge
We were lucky enough to spend 5 nights at the Gorges Lodge, which is rare since it is typically booked completely all year round! It sits perched at the top of Batoka Gorge bordering Zambia along the Zambezi River. The Lodge grounds is completed by one of the most beautiful lush gardens, a swimming pool and multiple lookout points.
All of rooms are at least 100ft away from one another with private paths to the door making it a very romantic and private space.
Sitting naked on your veranda wouldn’t be an issue since the only thing that can see you is one of the Black Eagles nested on the other side of the gorge 450 metres away in Zambia!
We have been traveling for quite some time and both Celina and I agreed that this was easily one of the most beautiful and unobstructed views of landscape we have seen in quite some time. You can watch people white water rafting 200 metres below in the river, take a hike down the gorge to the river, Black Eagle watch, enjoy a private massage on your veranda or in the garden and so much more.
The meals are amazing, full of flavour and accommodating to any dietary restrictions!
It was really refreshing to go to a place that already knew what a vegan diet consists of; explained each ingredient for reassurance and didn’t slip up on any of the dishes. The Lodge has a strong focus on wellness which includes a wonderful health conscious menu and excellent selection of wines and cocktails. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or tucked away in your room the service is top notch ready to assist you in anyway.
The sunsets here are incredible *hearts in eyes*
And although this time of year (September) the sun isn’t setting across the gorge on the Zambian side we still get to see a wonderful array of colours, lasting what seems like forever, changing from light blues, pinks and purple. We are lucky to get the sun right on our side at sunrise lighting up our lodge with the most beautiful colours first thing in the morning!
It is quite hard to think of anything bad to say about this magical place, the energy is strong making doing yoga feel extra relaxing and powerful and the drive through the local village Chisuma was really beautiful.
Imvelo Safari Lodges actually does quite a lot of community initiatives in the local and surrounding villages to support wildlife, people and conservation. There are different daily activities that can be organized with the front desk on how to get involved, visit communities and more. We thought that was a wonderful touch to supporting your neighbours.
